MATRIX HANDS REINS TO ST CLAIR

GIE Maile Matrix started a new era with a bang by signing Samir St Clair to take over as the team's head coach for the next season. St Clair, 43, replaces former coach Brad Martin, who guided the Matrix to playoffs in his second stint with the club. Before that, D.J. Douglas and Jermaine Barnes, as coach and player, led GIE to its first UBA title in 2010. The Matrix added four more league titles and the Copa Michell Cup (Dominican Republic) for its only triple crown to date.

St Clair arrives from Mexican club Pioneros de Mochis, where he took over as a head coach in January 2020.  The Ciba Copa League was cancelled due to the Covid 19 pandemic.

Al Jazeera (UAE-D1) was the first head coaching job for St Clair, who joined the club's bench right after leaving the NCAA. St Clair was first hired as an assistant coach at the start of the 2012-13 season, before getting promoted to head coach. He would continue to coach in the Middle East for three season before signing a three year deal in Japan with the Saitama Broncos.
