MOCA NAMED HOST CITY FOR 2023 UNITED CUP

Moca named host city for 2023 United Cup of Champions

MOCA (Dominican Republic) - Moca has been officially named as the host city of the United Cup 2023 in Dominican Republic.

The state-of-the-art Polideportivo de Moca (Arena) - which opened its doors in 2021 - will be the location for the entire tournament.  The event will take place June 19-25.

Hugo Mendez was named event organizer in Mocha.  He will invite hosting club San Sebastian and rival Club Don Bosco.  Mendez was the manager since 2012.  In that time he won six championships in the Mocha Superior League.

"The tournament in Santiago was a basketball event to be remembered. It's a great pleasure and joy to have the opportunity to create the same in Moca," said Hugo Mendez, Event Director of Mocha.

"In recent years, Moca has shown that it’s capable of organizing high-quality international events. Polideportivo de Moca is conveniently located in the center of the city, built basically in the middle of the city.  It will be a great opportunity for our city.

San Sebastian's senior team has never competed in the United Cup during the nine years it was hosted in Santiago.

Nargenis Ulloa was one of the stars of LDC Superior League 2023 in helping the GIE Cibao Immortals advanced to the Finals of the tournament for the second time. Ulloa will be expected to add star power for his home time of Moca.

"I think Hugo was the perfect person to select this season", said United Cup founder Jermaine Barnes.  Moca loves basketball.  I wanted to bring the city a different type of tournament.
